Tensorex C+

Mauritus 2019

In Mauritus 2019, 115 Tensorex C+ Units where installed within Phase, 1, 2 and 3.

The opening of the first 13 km section of Mauritius’ new Metro Express marks a milestone in public transport, replacing the island’s passenger train service that ended in 1964. Construction of the 26 km line began in 2017, connecting Port Louis with Quatre Bornes, Rose Hill, Vacoas, and Curepipe. The first section has nine stops, with the second, adding 10 more, expected by 2021. Larsen & Toubro won the construction contract and opted for the TENSOREX C+ spring tensioning system from Mosdorfer Rail, which maintains overhead line tension and requires no maintenance. Mosdorfer Rail supplied 115 units for the first two sections, with further expansions planned, including a link to the airport.

Due to high humidity and coastal proximity in Mauritius, the steel parts of the TENSOREX C+ spring tensioning system need to be highly resistant to saltwater and rust. Rob Renshaw, Commercial Sales Manager at Mosdorfer Rail highlights its long-term, maintenance-free operation, lasting 30-40 years, even in harsh sea air. Mosdorfer Rail also supported technical planning and provided custom connectors, clamps, and steel parts. Additionally, they offered on-site technical training and supervised the initial installation.

Istanbul Tram 2024

In 2024, 30 Tensorex C+ were supplied to Istanbul Tram, including 3 Tensorex C+ 3D.

The Istanbul Metro is a rapid transit railway network that serves the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Apart from the M11 line, which is operated by TCDD Taşımacılık, the system is operated by Metro Istanbul, a public enterprise controlled by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The oldest section of the metro is the M1 line, which opened on 3 September, 1989. As of 2024, the system now includes 159 stations in service, with 36 more under construction. With 243.3 kilometers, Istanbul has the 21st longest metro line in the world and the 5th in Europe.

In September 2024 work was commencing on the Istanbul Metro line for the installation of Tensorex C+ a change in system from Balance Weights to Tensorex C+, in order to have a modernized system. Mosdorfer Rail provided 30 Units to 44.7km (27.8 Miles) of system length. The voltage of the line was 750 v DC with a temperature delta of Temperature delta 55°c (-10°c to +45°c). Within these 30 Units, 3 of these Units were the new highly anticipated new Tensorex C+ 3D. Which is the new longer compensation length Tensorex. The Tensorex C+ 3D is a tensioning device designed to allow for an increased compensation length in comparison to the standard Tensorex C+ range. The installtion of the Tensorex was a long challenging session, with numerous climbs in the rain, but we successfully completed the task. Stated one of the Installers over seeing the installation of the Tensorex in Turkey. Support was given when needed during the installation as well as neccessary clarifications during the supervision of the process.

Tensorex C+ 3D

Sheffield Tram 2024

From November 2023 to November 2024, Mosdorfer Rail is supplying 34 Tensorex C+ units for Sheffield’s 34.6 km (21.5 Mile) tram line.

Sheffield, UK, is home to the Supertram network, a tram-train system serving the regions of Sheffield and Rotherham since its inception in 1994. Originally equipped with a traditional Balance Weight System, the network is now undergoing a through modernization. As part of this upgrade, Tensorex C+ units have been selected to replace the existing balance weights across the Tram network.

From November 2023 to November 2024, Mosdorfer Rail is supplying 34 Tensorex C+ units for Sheffield’s 21.5-mile tram line, including three units of the newly developed Tensorex C+ 3D. These advanced units are being deployed to handle greater temperature variations, as the standard Tensorex C+ units do not fully meet the requirements for temperature delta coverage. The installation of these units, spread across three key locations within the network, has been managed by MJ Hughes, the contractor appointed by Sheffield Supertram (South Yorkshire Future Trams Ltd).

This new innovative technology has been developed to open up our market to be able to cope with the demand for dealing with longer track lengths, with its innovative double pulley wheel. The Tensorex C+ 3D is capable of up to 40% additional compensation length in comparison to the existing Tensorex C+ range.
